Halton Health Improvement Team and partners are launching the Borough’s first monthly Mental Health Hub on 7th September 2017.

The unique concept is the culmination of Halton Health Improvement Team’s work over the past 18 months to bring local support organisations together and raise awareness of mental health among Halton residents.

The Hubs will take place every month at two locations in Halton:

Runcorn Shopping City (Main Square)

The first Thursday of every month starting 7 September 2017 – 9.00am – 2.00pm.

Widnes Market (Community Stall opposite circular D.I.Y stall)

The third Wednesday of every month starting 20 September 2017 – 9.00am – 2.00pm.

The aim of the Hubs is to give Halton residents a direct link to the many different services out there who can provide you with help and support to manage your mental health. If you have a mental health issue, don’t be afraid to talk about it, come along and speak to those who can help. Hub staff will be able to signpost residents to appropriate services if needed.

Some of the services who have already signed up to be involved with our Hubs include:

Halton Safeguarding, Parents in Mind, Halton CCG, CAMHS, Cheshire Police, Citizens Advice Halton, Amparo, North West Boroughs Healthcare, Papyrus, Adult Learning and Community Bridge Builders.

September – Suicide Prevention

10 September is World Suicide Prevention Day, so two local services – Papyrus and Amparo will be at both hubs in Runcorn and Widnes in September, offering advice and help around suicide.

Papyrus is the national charity for the prevention of young suicide. They deliver awareness and prevention training, provide confidential support and suicide intervention through HOPELineUK, campaign and influence national policy, and empower young people to lead suicide prevention activities in their own communities.

The national helpline HOPELineUK provides a confidential phone, text and email service for young people (up to the age of 35) who may be having thoughts of suicide and for the families, friends and professionals who are supporting a young person at risk.

Service Contact Details:

  • Call: 0800 068 41 41
  • Text: 07786209697
  • Email: pat@papyrus-uk.org
  • Opening hours are 10am-10pm weekdays, 2pm-10pm weekends, and 2pm-5pm Bank Holidays.

AMPARO provides support for people in Merseyside and Cheshire, following suicide. Support is provided 1:1 and our staff can assist with a range of practical matters such as dealing with Police and Coroners, helping with any media enquiries, help with overcoming isolation experienced and contacting and signposting to other local support services.

The Coroner will offer families access to AMPARO, immediately following a death by suicide. They can also accept self-referrals using the details below and our service is completely confidential.

The Hub concept proved successful during Mental Health Awareness Week in May this year, when two ‘hubs’ were set up which engaged with more than 1,100 people in Runcorn and Widnes.
