Smokefree Cars Leaderboard

Since 1st October 2015 it’s illegal to smoke in a car with someone under 18 present.

If you smoke with a child in the car, you risk a £50 fine.

Secondhand smoke from cigarettes contains more than 4,500 toxic chemicals – and 80 per cent are these are invisible.

When breathed in by children travelling in cars these can lead to a range of serious health problems including bronchitis, asthma and glue ear.

The change in law means that private vehicles must be smoke free if they are enclosed, there is more than one person present and one of them is under 18. The fixed penalty notice fine for offences is £50.
