Triple P

Positive Parenting Programme

Triple P Parenting Programme

What is Triple P?

Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme) is for parents and carers who have concerns about their child’s behaviour or want to learn new parenting skills.

Dealing with a child’s problem behaviour can be stressful for your entire family. Triple P can help parents and carers better manage their child’s behaviour, set better routines for mealtimes or bedtimes, and encourage good behaviour.

All parents and carers must commit to attending all 7/8 sessions of the course.

We offer three types of Triple P for parents and carers in Halton.

Group Triple P (7 weeks)

  • For parents of children up to 12 years of age

Group Teen Triple P (7 weeks)

  • For parents of teenagers up to 16 years old

Group Stepping Stones Triple P (8 weeks)

  • For parents of children up to the age of 12 with a developmental disability

How do I access the programme?

Speak to your health professional (such as a GP, health visitor) or social worker about being referred onto the programme.

Unfortunately we cannot accept self-referrals. If you’d like to know more about Triple P and the referral process please call our team on 0300 029 0029.

All courses consist of the following:

7/8 week course:

  • 4/5 two hour group sessions of up to 12 parents
  • 2 15-30 minute individual phone calls
  • Final 2 hour group session

Our group sessions are a great way for parents to meet others and share experiences. We provide tips and suggestions to suit the needs of each family and offer support and guidance at every stage of the programme.

Following the initial group sessions, parents and carers then have two weeks to practice what they have learnt in the groups at home, supported by a weekly call from their Triple P Support Worker.

These calls last between 15 and 30 minutes and give parents a chance to raise questions and any problems they may have.

There are some really helpful videos on the national Triple P website including interviews with parents from around the country who have been on the programme.

Each participant receives a workbook which offers information to support each group session as well as exercises the parent can try out at home.

Triple P can help you to:

  • encourage behaviour you like
  • deal with problem behaviour
  • become confident as a parent
  • be consistent
  • be realistic about parenting
  • how to take better care of yourselves and your children

Here’s what some of our parents have to say about the Triple P Programme

“It’s been excellent, my son’s behaviour has improved. We’re spending more time together as a family now.”

“The course has enabled me to stay calm, stay focussed and add structure to our family home. It has given us a happy and safe home.”
